Have you read any of these? What authors are you excited to read for the first time?
I can confirm that Sarah Waters, Daphne du Maurier and George Orwell are all worth reading. ;) Animal Farm's a pretty good place to start with Orwell because it's so short, but it packs a real punch! Frenchman's Creek by du Maurier's great, too; that's the first book of hers I read and it was so much fun. :D Affinity by Sarah Waters is good, too, although it's probably the gloomiest of her novels.
ReplyDeleteI still need to read some Gail Carriger, though! I own Etiquette & Espionage and Soulless, and I'm determined to cross at least one of them off my TBR soon. :)
Your blog is always reminding me that I haven't read any du Maurier! I thought about starting with Animal Farm, but I already know so much about it, I decided to start with 1984 instead!

I loved Rebecca and I've also read her short story The Birds, which the movie was based on. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI have a short story collection of hers on my shelf- I'm really interested i her short stories too!

I SO want to read books by George Orwell. I saw the film for college years ago and I really want to read that book. Animal Farm is one I want to read too!
ReplyDeleteI'm really interested in everything by Orwell! He was such a revolutionary thinker.
