It would be easier to make a list of books that aren't on my summer TBR, as I want to read EVERYTHING over the next two and a half months. I had a really hard time finding time to read last semester, and I fear that next semester will be the same, so I want to get lots of reading done while I can. Here are a few of the books I want to pick up soon.
Hosted by: The Broke and the Booksih
1. The Raven Boys, Maggie Stiefvater
This has been on my TBR for way too long!! I need to pick this one up soon, I hear it's great.

2. Just One Day, Gayle Forman
This will be a perfect self-discovery and travel summer read. I have heard amazing things about this one too.

3. Code Name Verity, Elizabeth Wein
Again, why have I not read this yet? I know I will love it.
4. The Wrath and the Dawn, Renne Ahdieh
I just bought this one, and the concept sounds really interesting. I think this one will be a really fun and action packed read.

It's no secret that I LOVE Sedgewick, and I have kind of been saving his newest release for a rainy day even though I bought it quite soon after it came out, but I don't know how much longer I can save it. I'm planning on picking it up on a day where I have nothing to do except read.
6. Etiquette & Espionage, Gail Carigner
This series looks so smart and sassy! You know I'm all about that girl power, and I think there will be plenty of that to go around in this one.
7. Ask the Passengers, A.S. King
I really enjoyed my first King novel, so it's time to read another.
8. Only Ever Yours, Louise O' Neill
I really enjoyed my first King novel, so it's time to read another.
8. Only Ever Yours, Louise O' Neill
I have been so interested in this one ever since I first heard about it. I love all the feminism that is happening in YA right now, and I think this one is going to be just as impact-full as The Handmaid's Tale .
9. Tess of the D'ubervilles, Thomas Hardy
I need to get cracking on my Classics and Rereads for this year, and my huge list of unread classics in general, and this is one that I'm really eager to read (and then watch the BBC mini-series, of course.)
10. 1984, George Orwell
11. Johnny Panic and the Bible of Dreams, Sylvia Plath
The Bell Jar is one of my all-time favorite novels and I worship Plath for her poetry abilities so of course I want to read this collection of her prose. But I also want to savior it.
As always, please leave me a link to your list below, I would love to visit your list- and add to my ever-growing TBR.

I am SO excited for The Wrath and the Dawn. It looks amazing! And everyone's been raving...
ReplyDeleteAlso: The Raven Boys (and the rest of the books in the series so far, as well as every other book Maggie has written) is on my top favorites list. Particularly the Raven Cycle, but seriously - anything by Maggie is just epic. Hope you love them! <3

Ahh! I need to read some of Maggie's works! The Scorpio Races looks fantastic too!

I'm pretty much with you 100% on this list, so much so that I feel like I may have written it. Sylvia Plath is my favorite. I'm currently reading 1984 for the first time (I'm not sure how I got through my education without ever being required to read it) and it's pretty much the king of all dystopia. It's a little slow so far but really interesting.
ReplyDeleteI love, love Plath. I could talk about her works for days on end! Glad to hear you are appreciating 1984. I need to read more Orwell!

CODE NAME VERITY IS YOUR PRIORITY. That book is senSATIONAL. I've wanted to read TESS OF THE D'URBERVILLES for forever, and 1984 is really good. THE WRATH AND THE DAWN was not my favorite. So, yes: CODE NAME VERITY.
ReplyDeleteRachel @ Beauty and the Bookshelf
Ah!! Okay I will bump it up on the list! I know I will love it when I finally get around to it!

Fantastic choices. I loved Code Name Verity. I'm also really looking forward to reading the Wrath and The Dawn at some point! Enjoy! My TTT
ReplyDeleteI have heard so many great things about both of those reads!
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Great list! Only Ever Your was SO INCREDIBLY GOOD.
ReplyDeleteAH! I can't wait to dive into it!
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
I know what you mean. It's only the middle of June and already I feel like THERE'S NOT ENOUGH TIME!!! I MUST READ MORE!!!
ReplyDelete1984 is a very... interesting... book. Since it was one of the books that practically built the dystopian genre it was really cool to read. I wouldn't say it's an enjoyable book, but it is amazing.
Yes! I feel like my reading time is going way too fast! I'm looking forward to 1984, as it is such a respected and beloved classic.

School just doesn't give you enough time to read for fun, does it? Hope you get some good reading done now.
ReplyDeleteHere's what I plan to read this summer!
I hardly had any time to read for fun last semester! So sad!
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
I've heard of several of these, but read none of them. Enjoy your summer and my wish is that you get to sample each and every one of these. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Kay!
DeleteI SO hope you read The Raven Boys this summer!! I just read it a few months ago and I'm SO hooked on that series! Maggie Stiefvater is all kinds of smart and awesome. Also Code Name Verity!! And Etiquette and Espionage!! Good choices!
ReplyDeleteAh! I have so many good things about Raven Boys and Code Name I will have to make them a priority! Everyone loves them!
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Yes, you should totally pick up The Raven Boys soon! Raven Cycle is one of my all time favorite series and don't even get me started on how beautifully Maggie writes. Code Name Verity has been on my TBR for forever! And The Wrath and the Dawn was one of my most awaited releases for this year. It's a shame I still haven't bought it. I still haven't read The Bell Jar or any books by Orwell but I'm planning on it. If only there was more time for everything.
ReplyDeleteLovely list. :)

I highly recommend The Bell Jar, and Plath's poetry! The Raven Boys might just be the next thing I pick up! So much love for that series!

The Raven Boys is great, little slow to start with, but awesome once you get into it. Code Name Verity is on my summer TBR as well. As I did my summer TBR a few weeks ago, on beach reads week, I decided to do something different today and did a list of my favourite villains (random, I know but it's what I felt like doing!). Check it out here:

Great list!! I love Sylvia Plath. I haven't read her books but I love her poetry. I hope that you like Just One Day, Just One Year was just as good and Just One Night was amazing!

CODE NAME VERITY! (!!!!!)
ReplyDeleteYes, you must read this. I really love that book - I gave it to so many folks as a holiday gift the year it came out.
I'd also really like to read A.S. King's Ask the Passengers - haven't read anything she's written, but I've heard good things about that book in particular.
So much love for Code Name Verity!

Reading Gail's needs to be a priority for me as well because the covers are amazing and I've heard rumors that the books are equally as awesome. I think I have the first book in the YA series you feature. Ooo, and I've heard "Wrath and Dawn" is really good. Hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for visiting Dreaming Under the Same Moon today. Visit anytime.
Yes, they look like such fun reads! I love historical fiction steampunk settings!

This is such a great list! I Really want to read Just One Day and Code Name Verity as well. I'm hoping to fit them into my schedule soon. :) Happy Reading!

Great list, Mallory! None of these books made my list, but plenty of them are also on my TBR. I'm determined to cross The Raven Boys and Code Name Verity off my TBR this year, and I'd really like to Etiquette & Espionage and Ask the Passengers, too.
ReplyDelete1984's brilliant - I hope you enjoy it! :)
All great choices! I will be interested to hear your thoughts on those books if you get to them this year!
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
You have to the The Raven Boys, yesss! You will fall in love with the whole gang. Just One Day is suuuuch a beautiful story, I loved reading it and getting lost in the character's lives. You will enjoy it, I know it.
ReplyDeleteI want to read The Wrath and The Dawn and 1984 by Orwell, hopefully I'll read them soooon! :)
Glad to hear you recommend those books so highly! I'm excited to get to both!
