Stacking the Shelves and What Happened This Week: More Happy Holidays

This week's Stacking the Shelves is the American Lit II Edition. All of the books featured I will be reading in my American lit class next semester, and I'm not going to lie the list is a little daunting (since it also contains two books I already own and an anthology), especially because I have four other classes this semester- two of which are literature classes- so this semester will be interesting to say the least.
What I Bought For School:

Tracks, Louise Erdich
Cat's Cradle, Kurt Vonnegut
Uncle Tom's Children. Richard Wright

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain-- Gorgeous Penguin Deluxe Classic Edition.

Just For Fun:

Chopsticks, Jessica Anthony and Rodrigo Corral-- a book told through photographs and illustrations- not words.
Born Wicked, Jessica Spotswood-- First in a YA trilogy about a teen witch living in a Salem-esque town.
Jackaby, William Ritter-- I have been wanting to read this since it was released, and I scooped it up when I saw it on a good deal on Nook. I love this cover. so if I love this book, I may have to buy a hard-copy too!

What Happened This Week:
This week was a little crazier than I thought it would be. I did a lot of visiting with family and my best friend stayed with me for the week so I didn't have a lot of time to read or post, but I'm hoping to spend the last one and a half weeks of break getting some reading and posting done!

Wednesday-- I reviewed a graphic novel, The Gigantic Beard that was Evil.
Thursday-- I took an accidental break for New Year's Eve.
Friday-- I reviewed one of my new favorite books, The End of the Affair by Graham Greene
And you can read last week's wrap up here.

What's Happening Next:
Honestly? I have no clue- hopefully a review of For Darkness Shows the Stars and another installment of my Literary Look Series, as well as a couple fun posts. I'm hoping to get some posts done and scheduled for the first two or so weeks of school in mid-January so I won't have to worry about them, so that will hopefully happen this week and next week too.

  2. I've only read Slaughterhouse Five by Vonnegut, but I've heard wonderful things about Cat's Cradle and I do want to pick it up at some point!
Jackaby has an absolutely beautiful cover, but I've read pretty mixed reviews for it. I hope you enjoy it though and share your thoughts here on your blog.

Thanks for stopping by at my blog earlier and happy reading! :)

  8. Apparently Vonnegut's nephew went to my high school - none of us really knew that then. My friends and I ate up Vonnegut back then but I don;t think I have revisited any of them. Glad to see you at the Sunday Post -- here's mine: http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/2015/01/sunpo-1-4-15.html

  9. Jackaby is on my TBR and Born Wicked looks great. I was a Computer Science major in college so I didn't actually end up having to take American lit (or any lits actually - just the freshman comps) so good luck with your reading! Have a great week!

    1. I hear ya! I also neglect the books on my Nook. I'm thinking this year I will have a month where I strictly read ebooks to help myself get caught up.

  12. I really want to read Jackaby. I love Kurt Vonnegut, I've read all of his books. My favorites are The Sirens of Titan, Hocus Pocus, Bluebeard and Breakfast of Champions. This time of year is always unexpectedly crazy. Hopefully it settles down soon. Enjoy your books and happy reading!
