This week's Stacking the Shelves is the American Lit II Edition. All of the books featured I will be reading in my American lit class next semester, and I'm not going to lie the list is a little daunting (since it also contains two books I already own and an anthology), especially because I have four other classes this semester- two of which are literature classes- so this semester will be interesting to say the least.
What I Bought For School:
Tracks, Louise Erdich
Cat's Cradle, Kurt Vonnegut
Uncle Tom's Children. Richard Wright
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain-- Gorgeous Penguin Deluxe Classic Edition.
Just For Fun:
Chopsticks, Jessica Anthony and Rodrigo Corral-- a book told through photographs and illustrations- not words.
Born Wicked, Jessica Spotswood-- First in a YA trilogy about a teen witch living in a Salem-esque town.
Jackaby, William Ritter-- I have been wanting to read this since it was released, and I scooped it up when I saw it on a good deal on Nook. I love this cover. so if I love this book, I may have to buy a hard-copy too!
What Happened This Week:
This week was a little crazier than I thought it would be. I did a lot of visiting with family and my best friend stayed with me for the week so I didn't have a lot of time to read or post, but I'm hoping to spend the last one and a half weeks of break getting some reading and posting done!
Monday-- I finalized my Rereads and Classics List for 2015!
Tuesday-- was all about my reading and blogging goals for 2015.
Wednesday-- I reviewed a graphic novel, The Gigantic Beard that was Evil.
Thursday-- I took an accidental break for New Year's Eve.
Friday-- I reviewed one of my new favorite books, The End of the Affair by Graham Greene.
And you can read last week's wrap up here.
What's Happening Next:
Honestly? I have no clue- hopefully a review of For Darkness Shows the Stars and another installment of my Literary Look Series, as well as a couple fun posts. I'm hoping to get some posts done and scheduled for the first two or so weeks of school in mid-January so I won't have to worry about them, so that will hopefully happen this week and next week too.

How was your week? What did you add to your shelves?
Born Wicked! I've owned that book for at least 3 years but still haven't read it. Shame on me. And I love the cover of Jackaby! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
Don't feel bad! I have lots of books like that on my shelves! Jackaby is a stunning cover!
Deletethanks for stopping by!
I've only read Slaughterhouse Five by Vonnegut, but I've heard wonderful things about Cat's Cradle and I do want to pick it up at some point!
ReplyDeleteJackaby has an absolutely beautiful cover, but I've read pretty mixed reviews for it. I hope you enjoy it though and share your thoughts here on your blog.
Thanks for stopping by at my blog earlier and happy reading! :)
I've yet to read Vonnegut- I'm looking forward to it. I have heard mixed reviews of Jackaby too- which is why I was excited to find it on sale on my Nook.
Deletethanks for stopping by!
Tracks is one of my very favorite books. I hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that! I don't know anything about it, so I'm looking forward to reading it.
Deletethanks for stopping by!
I really enjoyed the Cahill Witches Chronicles and hope you do too!
ReplyDeleteOh good to hear! They sound like super fun reads
Deletethanks for stopping by!
The only one of your books that I've read is The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and I really enjoyed that one. Looks like an eclectic line up :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear! I do have a wide variety of books this week. But variety is the spice of life!
Deletethanks for stopping by!
I also read the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn for school and it was actually really good. I have also read Born Wicked. It wasn't one of my favourites but I know a LOT of people who really love it so hope you enjoy it :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you liked Huck Finn, I'm a little hesitant about it, since I'm not crazy about the setting.

Apparently Vonnegut's nephew went to my high school - none of us really knew that then. My friends and I ate up Vonnegut back then but I don;t think I have revisited any of them. Glad to see you at the Sunday Post -- here's mine: http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/2015/01/sunpo-1-4-15.html
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool! I haven't read any Vonnegut yet, so I'm glad he's required reading.
Deletethanks for stopping by!
Jackaby is on my TBR and Born Wicked looks great. I was a Computer Science major in college so I didn't actually end up having to take American lit (or any lits actually - just the freshman comps) so good luck with your reading! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThat's so weird to me! I'm an English major so I take literature class upon literature class every semester- but I love it.
Deletethanks for stopping by!
I'm thinking of reading Jackaby. And I have Born Wicked, just haven't got to it yet. That's one of mu goals for this year. To make even a small dent in my kindle books. LOL
ReplyDeleteHere's my Sunday Post - http://fuonlyknew.com/2015/01/04/whats-new-on-my-bookshelf-91-and-the-sunday-post/
I hear ya! I also neglect the books on my Nook. I'm thinking this year I will have a month where I strictly read ebooks to help myself get caught up.

Great books for you this week!I have had Born Wicked for a long time, I just haven't read it yet. Hope you enjoy them!

DeleteI really want to read Jackaby. I love Kurt Vonnegut, I've read all of his books. My favorites are The Sirens of Titan, Hocus Pocus, Bluebeard and Breakfast of Champions. This time of year is always unexpectedly crazy. Hopefully it settles down soon. Enjoy your books and happy reading!
ReplyDeleteMichelle @ Michelle's Minions
I'm excited to get into Vonnegut, he is a rather polarizing author.
