Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Books I Won't Read While I'm Still in College

I'm changing up this week's topic because I don't think I would ever say I would NEVER read a book. So I'm making a list of books that I don't plan on tackling while I'm in college, unless they are assigned for a class (which I really hope they're not because it would be too much). These are all books that I do want to read sometime, but not in my school future.

1. Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray

2. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

3. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

4. Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf

5. As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner

6. Bleak House by Charles Dickens

7. North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell

8. Parade's End, Ford Madox Ford

9. The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton
10. Sophie's Choice by William Styron

  1. Yeah, I don't blame you for excluding these from your reading during college. I did read As I Lay Dying for a class in college, and I found it interesting, especially in the context of the class. But it's not a thrilling "for fun" read ;)

    1. I would be interested in checking in out, but I know it's not something I could read while take five classes. I need fun reads!

  2. Aw! Anna Karenina is my favorite book of all time! I don't quite know what it is about it, but I am so in love with its story and characters! I understand why you're not into it, though; it is daunting! Happy reading! :)

    1. I do plan on reading it! Just not until I'm finished with my degree!

  3. I don't think I'd read any of these books either. They just don't appeal to me whatsoever! My TTT!

  4. You are missing out by not reading A Tale of Two Cities. It is AMAZING, but probably one to savour, rather than rush. (I found it really hard to think of books that I would NEVER read, so I really like your twist on the topic!)

    1. Yes, I want to be able to concentrate on each of these books while I read them, and it's just to hard to do that while I'm still getting my degree and concentrating on other reading!
      Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Good luck making it through university without reading some of these, even if you're not an English major! I hope you don't ever have to read BLEAK HOUSE for a class. (I had to read it for a science class, and I was an Asian Studies major!)

    1. That's really weird that you read it for a science class, but also kinda cool! That's my kind science class!

  6. Hmmm...well, this grouping would not be my favorites. I wrestled with As I Lay Dying in high school and began my 'horror' of the classics. I'm still struggling with that 'horror'. LOL

  7. I hope you try The House of Mirth once you're out of school! That's probably my favorite novel, behind Gone with the Wind. :)

    1. I will, don't worry! I just want to be able to dedicate the proper time to it.

  8. Great list, Mallory! I don't think I'm ever going to read any Tolstoy either, and I'm not a big fan of Dickens; I think the only books of his I've actually read all the way through are A Christmas Carol and Oliver Twist, although I might give Little Dorrit a try one of these days. :)

    1. I haven't read any Dickens yet, but I'm waiting until I finish my degree to tackle him, well actually I will probably have to tackle him for British Literature in semester or two.

  9. Great list. A lot of these were assigned reading for me in college. I wouldn’t be surprised if you ended up having to read them. I had to read Ms. Dalloway 3 times while getting my BA in English lit. That might explain why I hate that book so much.

    1. Wow- three times!? That's way too much studying of one novel. I'm sure that has contributed to your feelings on the book.
