Top Ten Tuesday: Ten of My Favorite Quotes

Okay, this week's post was SO HARD! I have soooooo many quotes and passages that I love in novels, though many of them fall under the thought-provoking category as opposed to the inspirational category. Here's a sampling of ten of my favorite beautiful and thought-provoking quotes from novels.

Think on this....

1.  "I don't care if you're queer. Queer is just a word. Like orange. I know who you are. There's no one word for that." - Grasshopper Jungle, Andrew Smith

2.  "Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road." - On the Road, Jack Kerouac

3. "Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string... Under the almighty effort let us advance on Chaos and the Dark." -Self-Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson

4. "Because I can see people's souls sometimes when I draw them, I know the following: Mom has a massive sunflower for a soul so big there's hardly any room in her for organs. Jude and me have one soul between us that we have to share: a tree with its leaves on fire." -I'll Give You the Sun, Jandy Nelson

5. "When you consider things like the stars, our affairs don't seem to matter very much, do they?" - Night and Day, Virginia Woolf

6.  "Old times: if you're not careful, they'll gut you like a fish." -The Rules of Civility, Amor Towels

Let These Words Inspire...

7. " Nolite te bastardes carborunddorum. Don't let the bastards grind you down." -The Handmaid's Tale, Margaret Atwood

8.  "listen:there's a hell/ of a good universe next door;let's go -pity this busy monster,manunkind, E.E. Cummings

A Love That Lasts...

9. "I almost wish we were butterflies and lived but three summer days- three such days with you I could fill with more delight than fifty common years could ever contain." - John Keats in a letter to Fanny Brawne

10. "Rather than put him in so painful a position I determined to retire from the case, and to bear on my own shoulders whatever ignominy and shame might result from my prosecuting Lord Queensberry." -Oscar Wilde in a letter, concerning his decision not to defend himself by having Bosie (his lover) take the stand in his gross indecency trial.
